3 Step Rewind Process

Helping you reduce the symptoms of trauma in 3 simple steps

Understanding the Effects of Trauma

Our brains are designed with different parts which all have their individual functions. The Amygdala is the part which controls our fight or flight survival instincts and is triggered when we deem ourselves in a life threatening situation. Think of it as a fire alarm!

When you have a trauma, the experience is stored and processed within the amygdala and kept until you are exposed to similar scenarios, at which point your fire alarm is triggered and a cascade of physical and emotional responses unfold.

You may experience:

  • Palpitations
  • Panic attacks
  • Flashbacks

It can come in all shapes and forms.

When the amygdala is triggered, your brain releases two stress hormones called cortisol and adrenaline. Blood rushes to our extremities, our heart starts beating faster and we go into a protective state. This was a useful function when we needed to hide from a Sabertooth Tiger millions of years ago, however in modern life work needs to be done in order to control it.

Whilst we are in a triggered state, the hippocampus (our filling cabinet of memories) gets stuck, meaning our experience cannot be filed away or processed as a past event. The emotions we feel at that moment then get linked with the memory of the trauma. This leaves you stuck in a loop of fear as every time the experience is re-lived, you activate the amygdala.

The 3 Step Rewind Process

The 3 Step Rewind Process does not remove the experience, however it works on disconnecting the alarm bells that go off when you are triggered. It keeps the wisdom and the lessons learnt, taking the fear, anxiety and trauma away. It allows your memories to be filed away in your neocortex/subconscious and tells the amygdala the event is over.

As well as shifting any heavy memories or anxieties connected to pregnancy or birth, it can help with any traumatic experience and even help with memories dating back as far as childhood

The process originated from NLP and is different to traditional therapy. It is as simple as a guided meditation, walking you through a set of instructions where your subconscious does the work.

You do not have to talk about your experience during this session if that is painful. It is done through taking the mind on a journey.

How Does It Work?

The treatment involves 3 sessions, each up to 90 minutes long, and can be conducted in person or virtually on Zoom.

Session 1 will be about understanding your story, should you wish to share it, and understanding more about how the 3 Step Process works. I will ask questions about the changes you want to experience when you are free from these feelings. How would this impact your life? The session will end with a relaxation practice in preparation for the following session.

Session 2 will enter you into a deep state of relaxation, using the rewind process to gently guide you back through the memory, breaking the neural pathways that are triggering symptoms and feelings. We will tune into your new feelings and goal state.

In Session 3 we will check in to see how you are feeling and re-look at the symptoms.

If necessary, we re-run the 3 Step Process for different traumas
