Hello, my name is Laura, owner of ‘Fingers and Thumbs Massage’.  I qualified in ITEC Holistic Massage in 1996 and after further study in the field of Seated Acupressure Massage with The Academy of On-Site Massage, set up Fingers and Thumbs in February 1999.

Over the years I have specialised in pregnancy massage with Well Mother in Bristol, qualified as a baby massage instructor with The Middlesex School of Complimentary Therapies, studied Hot Stone Therapy and completed various advanced massage courses in No Hands Massage and Musculo Skeletal work.

As a result of specialising in Pregnancy, I now also work with parents and families as a Doula – during the birth and/or postnatal period.

I currently live in Fetcham, near Leatherhead, Surrey and work at a number of locations throughout London and Surrey.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

I run a Home Visit service for Pregnancy and Baby Massage throughout Surrey and South West London. Massages are offered from Conception to Term, dependent on a full medical consultation and, if necessary, a doctors referral.  Due to the changes an expectant Mother experiences, each pregnancy massage session is tailored to her individual needs.

DOULA SERVICES IN SURREY AND SW LONDON

I trained as a Doula in August 2010, which for me was a natural progresson of my career as a massage therapist specialising in Pregnancy Massage and baby work.

Becoming a Doula has enabled me to truly accompany mothers on the whole of their birthing journey.

In my role as a Doula, I work with the expectant mother and her partner in a physical way, but also in an emotional and supportive role. Thus strengthening the bond between each other and baby whilst helping them to have the kind of birthing experience they would like.

What is a Doula and how do they help?

By working with a mother and offering her a continuous sense of support, skill and understanding, I help her to discover and develop the inner confidence, power and strength she has to carry her through the birthing process and into motherhood. This also involves working with her partner, if appropriate, and through teaching and discussion I encourage them to communicate and support each other through pregnancy and birth. Working as a unit, I hope to offer them ways in which they can physically and emotionally support the growth of their new family.

My Birth Doula services:
24hr On-call from 38-42weeks
Attendance at Birth if requested
2 Ante-Natal visits; including discussion of desired birth plan, meeting of other birth support persons, labour positions and massage techniques
2 Post-Natal visits; including debrief, birth discussion and feeding support

Postnatal Doula – offers continuous support in the early months, information and understanding regarding feeding and sleep choices, light house work including cooking, basic child care to enable recuperation of the new mother and support and help with the integration of Baby into the family unit and siblings lives.
